What is SSC CGL Typing Test?

The SSC CGL (Combined Graduate Level) typing test is part of the Tier-II selection process for posts that involve regular data entry or document preparation tasks. It is designed to assess a candidate’s typing speed and accuracy under timed conditions. You’re required to type 2000 characters, including spaces, within 15 minutes.
This test is mandatory for roles such as Tax Assistant in CBDT/CBEC, and Assistant Section Officer in CSS. It's an important qualifying step and failure to meet the benchmark could lead to disqualification even if you’ve scored well in other papers.

Typing Test Pattern and Marking Scheme

The SSC CGL typing test is held for 15 minutes and requires a minimum of 2000 key depressions. There is no specific “marking scheme,” but your accuracy must be high—typically 95% or more.

Candidates can choose between English and Hindi. Once selected, the language can't be changed later. Hindi typing is generally done using either the Remington or Inscript layout.

Errors such as missing words, wrong spellings, or extra spaces affect your accuracy and can disqualify you even if you completed the required characters.
